A poem and reflection from 'Early Music'
Once as a little girl
Fishing off a dock
Into the Narraganset bay
Afraid if she caught one
She’d have to unhook it and
Feel its pain in its mouth
She decided to let the fish
Go free
And prayed she’d
Not catch one
And didn’t .
I am happy to have been spared
That occasion
I might have gone mad
Carrying on
About a fish
Not being free
Out of his element .
